How soon you’re ready to resume exercising with your personal trainer depends on many things, one being on the type of birth you had.
Safe exercising after natural birth
Don’t resume exercising before your six-week check-up with your doctor. You may think you’ll be itching to conquer the burpees and mountain climbers with your mobile trainer, but chances are, until the six-week mark, your baby will be giving you a run for your money with your energy levels!
Try: gentle walking, and pelvic floor and abdominal exercises.
Safe exercising after a c-section
A c-section is major abdominal surgery, and you need to be fully recovered before you return to your exercise regime with your personal trainer. It’s only safe to do low-impact exercise of any kind, eight weeks after your c-section.
Try: low-impact stationary cycling, post-natal yoga and gentle walking.
Avoid: sit ups, heavy weights, crunches or abdominal curls, as these put pressure on your scar.
The rule of thumb? If you feel pain, stop!
