Tempted to go barefoot during your training session? Here’s when our mobile trainers suggest wearing shoes and going barefoot.
When to wear shoes
Even though weight training doesn’t involve high-impact pounding, you may prefer to wear close-toed shoes during your session with your personal trainer. “You may run the risk of dropping a weight on your foot, and that’s never pleasant,” says Nicole, BodyBack’s head of mobile trainers.
When to go barefoot
“Training barefoot can help strengthen the muscles in your feet, since the force of the movement isn’t absorbed by your shoes,” says Nicole. Strengthening your feet helps strengthen your core, hips and legs, as your body becomes more aware of its changing positions and activates surrounding muscles to help stabilize the body. At-home exercises that work without trainers include strength training, like squats, lunges, and core exercises.
