When it’s core training day with your BodyBack personal trainer, the plank is the top exercise to strengthen and stabilise your core. 

The plank position creates trunk stability and strength necessary for almost every other movement in fitness. Nicole, our head of mobile trainers, says, “A strong and stable core aids in better posture and balance, and reduces back pain.”

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Place forearms on the floor, elbows directly underneath your shoulders, hands facing forward with arms parallel.
  2. Extend your legs behind you, forming one straight line from your shoulders to your heels.
  3. Squeeze your entire core, your glutes, and your quads, and tuck your butt under a little to keep your lower back straight. Don’t drop your hips or hike your butt up high.
  4. Keep your neck in a neutral position and your gaze is on your hands. Hold.
